The Diverter Small Top Internal O-ring is the small rubber sealing ring that sits at the top of the internal mechanism inside a smaller-format diverter valve on the spa shell. It seals against water working its way up the shaft of the valve mechanism when the diverter is mid-rotation.

What a diverter does: A diverter is the larger rotating valve on the spa rim that switches water flow between two or more jet zones — turn it one way and the front-row jets get full flow; turn it the other way and the back-row jets get the flow instead. The Internal mechanism is what physically rotates inside the valve body to redirect the water, and the small Top Internal O-ring keeps water from leaking up past the rotating shaft.

When to replace: Replace any time you notice water at the top of the diverter when the jets are running, the diverter feels stiff or grindy when you rotate it, or you're already disassembling the diverter for any other reason.

How to install: No need to drain the spa for a top O-ring replacement. Unscrew the diverter cap, lift the internal mechanism out, remove the old O-ring at the top of the internal, clean the seating area, lightly lubricate the new O-ring with plumbing-safe silicone lubricant, and reassemble.

Quick tips:

  • If your diverter is the larger format (rather than "small"), you may need a different O-ring — bring the old one to one of our three Ontario showrooms for matching
  • If the diverter still feels stiff after a fresh O-ring and lubrication, the internal is worn and needs full replacement
  • Replace the matching Diverter Cap O-ring at the same time — they age together
