The 2.5" Pump Union O-ring is the rubber sealing ring inside a 2.5" pump union — the larger-diameter union typically used on the suction side of higher-flow spa pumps and on the suction manifold connection where pump intake meets the larger-diameter intake plumbing. When this O-ring fails, you get a drip at the union, suction-side air leaks (which kills pump prime), or persistent loss of jet power.
When to replace: Any time you notice water at the union when the spa is running, the spa pump struggles to hold prime, or you're disconnecting the pump for service. Suction-side O-ring failures are particularly sneaky because the union may not drip when the spa is off (no positive pressure), but during operation the pump pulls air in past the failed seal and you get noisy, sputtery jet performance instead of a visible leak.
How to install: Drain the spa below the union before disassembling. Remove the old O-ring, clean the seating groove with a paper towel, lightly coat the new O-ring with plumbing-safe silicone lubricant, and seat it cleanly. Hand-tighten the union — never use a wrench on a plastic spa union.
Quick tips:
- If your union is the smaller 2" size, you need the 2" Pump Union O-ring instead
- Sputtery jet performance is the diagnostic for a suction-side O-ring failure even before any visible drip appears
- Bring the old O-ring to one of our three Ontario showrooms if you're not sure which size fits your union
