The 2" Pump Union O-ring is the rubber sealing ring inside a standard 2" straight pump union — the threaded plumbing fitting that connects each spa pump to the suction-and-return manifold. When this O-ring fails, you get a slow drip from the union, lost pump prime, or in bad cases a pump that won't pull water at all.
When to replace: Replace the O-ring any time you notice water dripping from the pump union, when the existing ring has visible cracks, flat spots, or has gone hard and brittle, or any time you're disconnecting the pump for service. O-rings are cheap and a single drip behind the cabinet can do hundreds of dollars of damage to wood framing or insulation if it goes unnoticed.
How to install: Drain the spa below the pump union before disassembling. Remove the old O-ring, clean the seating groove with a paper towel, lightly coat the new O-ring with plumbing-safe silicone lubricant, and seat it cleanly. Hand-tighten the union; never use a wrench on a plastic spa union.
Quick tips:
- Buy a spare — you only need it when something is leaking, and you don't want to find out after the spa store closed for the night
- If your fitting is a 2.5" union instead of 2", you need the 2.5" Pump Union O-ring instead. Bring the old O-ring to one of our three Ontario showrooms if you're not sure.
